Our inquiry theme for this term was Playing My Part.  So much has changed in our environment since the earthquakes.  We wanted to showcase the East side of Christchurch and places in our community that we still all enjoy.  We also wanted to show what has happened to some parts of the Central City after the earthquakes.  We filmed in Gap Giller spaces (where buildings used to be) and artworks that have popped up in different.  Our other aim was to make a music video that would involve a lot of children from our Year 4 to 6 studio.

We met with Elizabeth and all decided what song we would want to use to showcase where we live and the Central City.  We watched the original YouTube video and took stats on the length of shots, what frames were used, how many different people were in the original video and what parts Justin Timberlake sung.

We had children who were in the ideas/storyboard group.  They thought of all the different places that we could film.  A group of them then went scouting for locations.  After that we matched places to dancers.  Anyone who wanted to dance could be in the music video.  We held auditions for the person that would be Justin Timberlake.

We had groups of children that travelled to the Central city and around the East side of Christchurch.  A group of children filmed children dancing.  We danced and sang behind the camera, while children were dancing.  After this, two children were responsible for editing the music video using iMovie.  This was hard work because we loved the song so much we couldn’t stop singing while dancing.

We had a lot of fun getting out and about in the city centre of Christchurch.  A lot has changed since the earthquakes...  Can you recognise some of these places?

MADE AWARDS....

A few weeks ago Nabraska and I flew up to Tauranga to represent our class at the MADE AWARDS. We were so nervous that I was shaking!  We saw lots of children at the awards.  
It was so exciting because I'd never been there before.  We got first place in the Powerco Year 4-6, Music Video category and we got two hobbit books.  These will go into the school library.  Then we won the Weta Workshop Supreme Award, we were so excited!  
I was really nervous going up on stage!

On the last day of term we invited our parents and whānau to come and watch our Music Video - Oh What a Night.  Everyone got to look at the props, planning and backdrops.

Behind the Scenes: Planning Part 1

Some of our original planning...we were working on a having a beginning...middle and end....to our story...

An ideas...the spaceship is going to the moon...but it gets hit by a meteor.  The ship gets knocked off course and ends up on a planet...we didn't have a name for this planet yet, so we called it Planet BOB...

What will they do on this planet?  The drummer meets the lady and one ideas is they lay under the stars...
