First we practised zentangles on scrap paper.  Then we got a square piece of cardboard.  We drew zentangles on this with pencil.  We went over this with black pen.  Then we went over this with watercolour pencils.

Behind the Scenes: Planning Part 1

Some of our original planning...we were working on a having a beginning...middle and end....to our story...
An ideas...the spaceship is going to the moon...but it gets hit by a meteor.  The ship gets knocked off course and ends up on a planet...we didn't have a name for this planet yet, so we called it Planet BOB...
What will they do on this planet?  The drummer meets the lady and one ideas is they lay under the stars...
An idea to have the band playing...
Working on the storyboard...
Sharing the storyboard with the class...using our Pinterest to pin onto the boards we made to help give us ideas...
Sharing the storyboard and working out what some of the jobs are people in the class can do...

Behind the Scenes: Outside of Spaceships

We drew spaceships on cardboard and then we put materials on them.  We made the spaceships bumpy with corrugated cardboard and we used hot glue guns.  After that we painted them.  We dry brushed them with different colours and gold paint.  We had to vote and the best spaceship was going to fly the puppets to the moon.  Everyone puppeteered and it was hard.  We had to work together and it was fun!  Bailey

The hardest part was figuring out how to make the robots.  We drew designs then made them by using the hot glue gun, scissors and cardboard.  The rockets were cut out and we made the control panels out of cardboard.  Then we dry brushed them and stuck on the control panels.  Ashton

These are some of our rocket designs...
On the left we are glueing cardboard onto a spaceship...
This is what we did before we painted the spaceships...
The spaceship on the left is the one that was going to fly to the moon...
Creating pieces to use to add texture...

Behind the Scenes: Planet Robolien

We drew our designs on scrap paper first.  Then we drew our buildings on cardboard.  Some were painted and for some we used water coloured pencils.

We glued on corrugated cardboard on buildings...
We painted it white then a colour...
We glued on sticks and strips of foam to create different textures...

Behind the Scenes: Making the Instruments

We watched the original video of Oh What a Night on You tube to work out what instruments to make.

The class went on Pinterest and pinned instruments for piano, bass guitar, drums and guitar. Rilee designed the bass guitar.  It was quite hard to make it we used cardboard and I smashed the remote to use the inside.

The drums were made with pringle cans and pringle lids.  It was hard making the bass guitar because you had to glue all the parts on.   We liked the musical instruments and I loved it because the bass guitar had rusty dry brushing on it.

Working out the size of the drums...

Behind the Scenes: The Animation

A group of of boys got the idea of going to a different planet in space.  They got the idea from watching Lost in Space. They started drawing ideas then they started to go on Puppetpals to practise to see if it was going to work.

They had to draw all of the pictures on cardboard.  They got a stylist and started to animate.  They made a storyboard so they knew what they were going to animate.

Then they edited the animation in iMovie.

Behind the Scenes: Puppet Making

At the end of Term One we started to make a music video called 'Oh What a Night.'  First we went into Pinterest and pinned aliens, robots and human sock puppets.

How we made the alien puppets:
First we got some socks and our teacher put the mouthplates in.  We used polysterene balls for the eyes and the front of the eyes we we used googly eyes. We put some hair on them with wool and string.  The arms were made with hot glue gun and sticks.  We made about 11 alien puppets.
How we made the human puppets:
We liked Bailey's designs for the human puppets.  We had to make five human puppets.  We used some tan socks for the humans we used special wool for their hair.

This is the girl puppet and the singer puppet...
This is Holly, Ocean and Oliver and a hole lot of wool and string!
Alien and Bass Guitar puppets...
Working out how the alien masks will work for the Space ball...
